THE PASSION BEHIND THE STORY

Sasha Jones and Sandra Viktorova are Emmy Award Winning journalists and mothers. Viktorova's own experience parenting a child with ADHD exposed her to the struggles at home and at school.

"It's tough watching your child's self-esteem plummet when they’re being scolded so much. I’ve learned so much from my failures and victories as a mom. This book speaks to the realities of ADHD, but it’s also celebrates the special qualities these children are blessed with. We hope this book reminds kids and their parents that they aren’t alone," Viktorova said.

Roughly 6 million children between the ages of 3-17 years have been diagnosed with ADHD, according to the CDC. Erick's story is meant to help children with mental health conditions see the best in themselves regardless of their own situation or diagnosis.

For Parents, Educators & Mental Health Professionals:

Research shows children with ADHD struggle with low self-esteem. It’s so easy to understand why. One Harvard doctor estimated children could receive as many as 20,000 corrective or negative comments by the age of 10 and that’s just at school. So how can adults combat the emotional toll so much scolding and negative feedback have on a child? Experts say adults need to engage with children in ways that promote self-worth and confidence.

With the consultation of mental health experts, Erick the Mastermind: ADHD Superpowers Revealed was created to help adults and children celebrate the special qualities of kids with ADHD. Erick Listo’s story will help children better understand how their minds work and why that can pose some obstacles but also make them wonderfully unique with limitless possibilities. Erick’s adventures will give parents, educators, and mental health professionals the opportunity to sow seeds for a deeper conversation about children’s feelings about ADHD and what kids can do to reach their goals. Regardless of age, adults and children will enjoy watching Erick save the day!
